Yangon, 20 October

Out of the two internet service providers (ISP) in Myanmar, Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) and Myanmar Teleport, MPT has upgraded its ISP service and performance yet again.

The ISP service expansion project will be completed in February next year and after its conclusion, additional bandwidth of 155 MB will be added to its present bandwidth 90 MB. An official from MPT told the Internet Journal that the backbone of MPT ISP will become 245 MB after the expansion.

"The ISP service and performance enhancement is a component of the greater sub-Mekong region communication infrastructure project which Myanmar, People's Republic of China, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia are involved in. At the end of this year, we are planning to increase the bandwidth once more from 245 MB to 1GB," the official said.

The ISP expansion project is being carried out by Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) in cooperation with Alcatel Lucent Company and the new ISP will be based near Hantharwaddy Roundabout.
