One of the contestants in Myanmar's first
DJ competition. |
DJ Bonny battled it out against 14 other competitors to be named
the king of spin at last Wednesday’s DJ competition at Pioneer
dance club in Yangon.
His stiffest competition came from DJs Aung Lay, K2 and Nway
Oo, who took second, third and fourth prizes respectively. But
DJ Bonny proved he could master the mixing deck better than the
rest.
“The winners were all very close in ability. They managed
the tempo well, but the first prize winner was the most efficient
in managing the keys and he showed the most expertise in making
chains (mixing) from one song to another,” said DJ Wine,
who was one of the judges of the contest, organised by Nyein Chan
Nyein and the Myanmar DJs Association.
Of the 60 DJs who registered for the competition, 28 —
including three female DJs —were shortlisted.
However, only 15 turned out for the October 31 final, where
each entrant had only five minutes to set up and 15 to show what
he could do.
Contestants were judged on their technical ability and creativity.
As the overall winner, DJ Bonny will receive assistance from
the competition’s organisers to establish a career as a
professional DJ.
This is the first time a DJ competition has been held in Myanmar.
