Myanmar hosting archery champs

By Aung Tun

MYANAMR is hosting the last leg of the 2006 Asian Roundup Archery Championships at the Kyaikkasan Archery Ground in Yangon from November 2-6. A total of 48 medals – 16 golds, silvers and bronzes each – are up for grabs, the Myanmar Archery Federation (MAF) said earlier.

In order to raise their world rankings, Asian archery powerhouses such as South Korea, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia take part in the regional championships, which are held three times a year. South Korea, China and Japan, however, are not competing in Myanmar.

The first leg was held in Bangkok, Thailand, in February and the second was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in July. In Bangkok, Myanmar archers claimed two bronze medals, placing third behind Japan and the Philippines. In Kuala Lumpur, Myanmar won one gold, one silver and two bronzes.
