THE government of Japan granted US$84,000 to Central Women’s Hospital in Yangon last month under its grassroots grant assistance program.

The donation was for the installation of two lifts to replace the old ones in the hospital, which are no longer functioning. The lifts are used to transport patients and medical equipment between the operation theatres and patient wards.

The 800-bed hospital was established in 1897 to provide free obstetric and gynaecological treatment to women from lower Myanmar.
