MELODY World, a new TV program aimed at promoting up-and-coming singers, will be aired on Myawaddy (MWD) television beginning December 3.

The show’s creator, Zomia Media Group, intends for the program to be an avenue for young singers to show off their talent and passion to a larger audience, said U Cho Pyone, Zomia’s managing director.

The program will air for 42 weeks. Those chosen among the top four at the end will have a chance to get their album produced.

“We will not control the contestants. If they get to the best-four stage, they will be able to choose the producer they work with,” said Myint Moe Aung, a composer and one of the judges for the contest.

The other judges include singer Nwe Yin Win, composer KAT and guest judge and singer L Lwun War.

Myint Moe Aung added that the show’s producers and judges aim to nurture the talent of every contestant who participates.

“We will take all responsibility for this contest by providing a singing coach and we will let the contestants know what steps to take if they are planning to join the singing field,” he said.

To participate in the show, contestants must pass a voice test. Once on the show they will have the opportunity to sing three songs of their choosing.

Participants will be scored by the judges based on pitch, timing, tone colour, expression, performance and diction or enunciation, according to Nwe Yin Win.
Myint Moe Aung said Melody World will be different from past singing contests, some of which did not keep their promise to support the winners in releasing an album, he said.

“I think those kinds of contests were short term and the contestants did not have much time to show their real talent,” he said, adding that it was important as well for judges to remain fair and objective in choosing the winners.

He also said many past contests have been sponsored by companies interested not in fostering new talent but in generating profits by using a contest’s winners for advertising or other purposes.

Melody World’s producers will be also be careful, he added, to help contestants choose songs that will give them a proper chance to show their real talents.

In the show’s last stage, the remaining singers will compete by singing songs composed by Myint Moe Aung and KAT.

Those who want to participate in the contest can pick up a free entry form from the offices of Zomia Media Group at No 60, Building C/3C of the Kankaw Housing Complex on Boyar Nyunt Street in Dagon township.
