Power plant to be ready in December

By Kyaw Thu

THE Yenwe hydropower plant that was scheduled to open at the end of October has had its launch postponed until January 2007, an official from the Ministry of Electric Power (1) said Wednesday, citing the late arrival of machinery from China.

“We have nearly finished installing one turbine,” said the official who asked not to be named, adding that the second of the project’s two turbines was yet to arrive from China.

Both turbines were expected to be installed by the end of the year and the plant was targeted to open before Independence Day on January 4, the official said.

The turbines have a generating capacity of 12.5 megawatts each, giving the power plant in Kyauktagar township, Bago Division, a total capacity of 25mw.
Electricity from the plant is to be fed into the national grid.
