6 ways to stay entertained in September

We are in the home stretch now — just under a month of monsoon to go.
Here are some tips from Moe Moe Oo on how to make the time go by faster.

1. Fashion fest

Don’t miss the Fashion Festival 2006 at Grand Plaza Parkroyal Hotel on September 16 and 17 (10am to 5pm daily) for the latest fashion tips. Designers Khin San Win, San Bouk Yar (Shayi), Aye Khine Zar Latt (Idyll) and Khine Mie Baby will show evening gowns and Myanmar traditional dresses — just in time for the up-coming wedding season. Makeup artist Aung Aung will also be giving out makeup tips. If you book your wedding package during the festival you will get a special discount.

2. Go over the moon

Moon Cake Festival arrives just in time — these decadent little cakes can melt away even the worst case of monsoon blues. Get yours from Traders Hotel, where you can choose from six different varieties ranging from $18-29 per box from September 6 to October 6.

3. Stuff yourself silly

Hotel Nikko Royal Lake’s Tiger Hill Chinese Restaurant is offering a daily lunchtime Dim Sum A-La-Carte Buffet with 60 items to choose from at the special introductory price of US$7 per person. Children under 5 eat for free.

4. Butter up

Pick up a copy of Peanut Butter’s new quirky-titled album Yay Nway Gyan Ne Myay Pe Yo (Chinese Tea and Peanut Butter) and sit back and enjoy. The album features 10 original tracks composed by L Phyu, Kyaw Thu Soe, Min Maw Kunn, Mg Mg and Mg Jak. Tape and CD are available at all good music stores for K800 and K1600 respectively.

5. Art, art, art

For a culture fix this month, see multi-skilled artist Mg D’s fifth solo art exhibition “21st Century D’Art Show” from September 5 to 11 at Beikthano Art Gallery, 11/3 B, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, Bahan Township. Celebrating his 65th birthday, the artist will display his realism works, modern art pieces and installation art. Some performance art will also be thrown in.

6. Rock out

Well-known Myanmar rock star Zaw Win Htut performs at the Sedona Hotel on September 17 with his band Emperor. The concert will feature songs from his latest album Myaw Lin Chin Kamchay (Hopeful Beach). Tickets are available at City Mart music counters, FMI Centre and Dagon Centre for K5000 and K8000. The show starts at 5pm.
