Cardiologists visit Yangon

By Phyu Lin Wai

A 12-MEMBER medical team from Australia visited the 1000-bed Defence Services General Hospital (1) in Yangon’s Mingalardon township from August 23 to 25 to perform cardiac treatments and operations in collaboration with cardiologists from the hospital.

The medical team – which included cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses and technicians – provided treatment and operations for more than 70 cardiac patients.

“This is the team’s third visit to the hospital,” said Professor Dr Aung Kyaw Zaw, senior consultant interventional cardiologist at the hospital.

He said the Australian group also provided educational talks at the hospital for medical students.

Cardiologists from the hospital have collaborated with international medical experts since 1991, performing operations alongside specialists from Singapore, Japan, England, India, Thailand and Australia during more than 50 visits.

“By performing operations with experts from other countries, we can learn the latest medical techniques and skills,” Dr Aung Kyaw Zaw said.
