A WORKSHOP to promote the participation of small- and medium-sized enter-prises in the potato trade in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) and Bangla-desh was held July 5
to 6 in Taunggyi in Shan
State.

The workshop, which was held at Aye Thar Yar Golf Resort Hotel, was organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), and Myanmar Farm Crop Producer’s Association (MFCPA).

The 71 participants included government officials and agricultural and commerce experts from the six GMS countries (Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam), as well as from Bangladesh.

The workshop included discussions on improving the potato trade and the investment climate for the industry, and boosting participation of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the potato trade.

The participants also took a field trip to local potato farms, processing sites and storage houses.
