MMPO grants aid to students

By Zo Puii and Moh Moh Thaw

THE Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation (MMPO) provided K1.8 million in student aid and more than 1000 exercise books to 90 children of organisation members at a ceremony at MMPO headquarters on Wingabar Street in Yangon’s Bahan township on June 24.

The organisation has provided assistance to the children of its members every year for the past 10 years, but this was the first time a ceremony was held to mark the donation.

“The Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation is not owned by me or the committee members,” said MMPO president U Kyi Soe Tun in a speech at the ceremony. “The organisation represents all film performers, and these students are our future.”

The money was contributed by the organisation and 29 film producers, while the exercise books were donated by KI KI Myanmar Company Ltd.

Each student received K20,000 and 12 exercise books, a significant increase from the K5000 provided to each student last year.

The financial assistance is open to the organisation members’ children who are enrolled in school up to grade 10, but an application form must be completed before the academic year starts for the children to be eligible.
