X-rays to see safer trading

By Ye Lwin

X-RAY machines will be installed at the Asia World port, Thilawa port and Muse (105 Miles) border trade zone in February, the Government announced last week.

Finance and Revenue Minister Major-General Hla Tun announced the move to more closely monitor goods entering and leaving the country at a meeting with Myanmar importers and exporters at the Ministry of Commerce headquarters on January 27.

The X-ray machines would be installed in the cargo inspection areas of the Asia World and Thilawa ports and at the Sino-Myanmar border trade zone of Muse (105 Miles), which is due to open soon.

The three X-ray machines cost US$3.5 million each and were bought from Germany, Major-General Hla Tun said.

The machines are intended to facilitate faster import and export procedures as well as prevent cross-border trade in illegal goods.
