WHILE sales of voltage regulators have increased this year, the market for electricity surge safeguards has remained flat, the owners of electrical supply shops told Myanmar Times last week. “Sales of regulators have increased by 30 per cent since last year because voltage levels are often low when the electricity comes back following shortages,” said Ko Myo Thant Tun, the sales manager of Nibban Electric and Electronics.

 

TRADE between Myanmar and Thailand is scheduled to increase in 2005 by at least 20 per cent beyond the more than US$1.9 billion reached in 2004, said Mr Matyawongse Amatyakul, the minister counselor (commercial) at the Thai Embassy in Yangon.

MYANMA Oil and Gas Enterprise has signed a production-sharing contract with Thailand’s PTTEP International Limited to explore for oil and gas off the coast of Myanmar.

THE Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) has announced plans to hire more than 300 additional Myanmar labourers in 2005, said Mr Mohd Abdullah Sahib, the deputy manager of the PSA.

 

FARMERS in Mandalay Division have increased their reliance on bio-organic fertiliser as they have become more aware of the advantages of its use, said officials from the agricultural sector.

 

THE country’s first citronella oil factory at Hlegu, about 30 miles north of Yangon, is expected to realize its full production capacity of 1.69 tons a day in September, said an official with the Myanma Agriculture Service.
