That’s the theory behind the Clowns Without Borders Association in Paris which, with the help of NGOs, sent a troupe of six French professional clowns to entertain Myanmar children and make them laugh.

The clown team, which included Myanmar clown U Soe Myat Thu, toured Taunggyi, the capital of the eastern state of Myanmar, world famous Inlay Lake, Mandalay, the second capital of Myanmar and Yangon.


 
He said he was surprised to win the best supporting actor Academy, his first, for his role as the evil uncle in Debt for mother’s milk (Amae Noe Boe) directed by Kyaw Thu as he had given up hoping for an Academy after so many years.
 
MONSOON, a new restaurant and bar, has opened on the lower block of Theinbyu road.Situated on a tranquil downtown block this bar will suit those who want to relax and enjoy good food.
 
The eight painters and photographers who travelled 2000 miles in the more remote areas of the Kachin State, shooting or sketching as they went, were finally able to show the public the spoils of their journey.
 
     

Sampling is taking an existing song and rearranging it in a new style. Some singers add rap lyrics, for instance, to an old song. Others simply sing the old songs in a completely new style. Some may say is is destroying the original song, but its defenders claim that they are just recreating a song with a new, fresh approach.

 

“Tourists are interested in Myanmar art, particularly images of the Buddha or monks,” said artist U Myint Soe, who has been a painter for 30 years. Before he opened his art shop at the Hotel Nikko, he had exhibitions in many art galleries and he says that it is the wealthy tourists who are most interested in art as they can afford to buy it.

 

Hae Lay of Teen group released his first debut solo album in December. The CD and tape has come out, but the VCD won’t be on the market until after water festival. Hae Lay said sales of his album, Achit-Pyauk-Thwar-Thu (A person who lost love) are not so bad.

 

“I want to treat the photo as a painting. If a canvas is used for painting, then it is logical to print photos on canvas too. I learnt the technique, and now I have applied it to this exhibition.”

 

ROCKER Mariza, who has been silent for more than two years as far as music goes, is back with his original composition modern rock album Zat Paung (Happy Ending). Recorded at the Metal Zone studio with the Metal Zone band , it was released on February 15.

 
 

Art Shows
- U Tin Aung Htike, an artist from Monywa, will display his watercolours at the New Treasure Art Gallery in Bahan township until March 1. Entitled Water Colour Poetry-2, the show features Myanmar traditional images and scenes.
