THE Myanmar Red Cross Society has chosen a former rector of the
Defence Services Medical Institute, Dr Hla Myint, as its new president.
The change was made at the eighth national congress of the Myanmar
Red Cross held at the Institute of Nursing in Lanmadaw township
on January 29.
Dr Hla Myint replaces Dr Kyaw Win, who was praised at the congress
for promoting the role of the Red Cross in humanitarian activities
and for his work on its organisational development during his
six-year term.
The congress also appointed four new members to the ten-member
executive of the MRCS.
The new members are Police Brigadier General Soe Win Myint of
the Myanmar Police Force, the Director of Nursing, Daw Phyu Phyu,
the retired superintendent of Yangon General Hospital, Dr Taik
Wan, and a former rector of the Institute of Medicine (2), Dr
Tha Hla Shwe.
The Myanmar Red Cross has 300,000 volunteers throughout the
country.
