THE Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry has proposed a plan to establish agricultural and horticultural producers’ associations to support an initiative by the Ministry of Commerce to increase production to create surpluses for export.

 

THE Malaysian government has invited Myanmar timber and wood products companies to participate in the Malaysia Furniture Export Exhibition 2005, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from March 3 to 7.

 

THE Myanmar Forest Products and Timber Merchants’ Association became the sixth member of the ASEAN Furniture Industries Council at the council’s first conference, held in Jakarta in Indonesia last month.

     

TRADERS in Myanmar should increase their knowledge of business rules and regulations when they are preparing to negotiate a contract with another company, business experts told Myanmar Times early this month.

 

A TRADE fair held late last month saw a decrease in sales compared with the previous two years, according to the fair’s namesake organiser, the Myanmar Ton Tah Company Limited, which is one of the biggest import companies in the country.

THE chair of the Myanmar Information and Communication Technology Corporation has called on ICT experts to collaborate on the development of third-generation software that would enable the use of the Myanmar language on all computer operating systems.

 

 

“Enthusiastic local entrepreneurs are invited to collaborate with the corporation in operating public internet access centres throughout Myanmar under a franchise system in order to introduce ICT to the public in diverse areas,” said U Aung Zaw Myint, the managing director of the corporation.

 

 
 
 

THE Ministry of Health is planning to conduct a series of surveys to identify factors that are hampering efforts to curb leprosy, a senior health official said last week.

 

Over the last couple of years, Myanmar cotton has started to overtake imported materials as the fabric of choice for those having new clothes made. Not only is cotton cool and comfortable, but it is also considerably cheaper than the synthetic blends brought in from other countries.

 

He said he has always been crazy for reggae. “From the time I first heard Bob Marley I have been excited about this music. Reggae is very free and it has its own style. I liked it a lot, I still do. I have released more than 20 reggae songs.”
