Sales decrease at trade fair

By Tin Moe Aung

A TRADE fair held late last month saw a decrease in sales compared with the previous two years, according to the fair’s namesake organiser, the Myanmar Ton Tah Company Limited, which is one of the biggest import companies in the country.

During the five-day exhibition ending on January 30, the company displayed a wide range of goods that it imports – including stationery, office equipment and agricultural machinery – as well as PVC pipes, which it exports.

It was the third time the company has organised the fair on its own. Previously it was organised jointly with several other companies.

“In 2003 and 2004 the demand for our goods was high but this year sales went down by 50 per cent,” said Daw Khine Khine Soe, the company’s accountant.

Last year we sold products with a discount of up to 10 per cent but this year we did not offer any discounts.”
