EIGHTEEN Myanmar companies participated in the revamped ASEAN Trade Fair in Hanoi, Vietnam last week, as the bi-annual event was increased to accommodate companies from the rest of Asia, the United States and Europe to coincide with the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) also taking place in Hanoi.

Offering goods including gems and forestry products, the trade fair at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Centre from October 6 to 10 was a chance for Myanmar to increase its economic ties in the region, an official from the Department of Trade Promotion told Myanmar Times.

 

IN many parts of the world a master of business administration degree is a well-established entry ticket into the world of gainful employment. The skills of graduates from such programs are highly valued in the labour market.

 

PSA will recruit 150 crane operators between the age of 20 and 35 on two-year contracts, adding to the 160 Myanmar workers – mostly engineers and technicians – that began working at the port in July. PSA recruited 200 Myanmar workers in 2003.

As new developments spread across Myanmar’s capital ahead of the ASEAN Summit in 2006, experts believe an adequate water supply should become a priority to avoid the pitfalls other fast-growing cities have faced in a bid to guarantee potable water.

     

INTERIOR work on United Condominium 2 on Anaw-rahta Road in Lanmadaw township will start this month, Dr Sein Win, managing director of United Construction, said last week.United Construction plans to finish the 12-storey building by April 2005, he added.

 
 

Sources at the ministry said 90 of the trainees would attend a diploma course at the Arava International Centre for Agriculture Training in southern Israel and the other 90 would receive on-the-job training on farms in the surrounding area.

 

The field trip to the park in Mandalay Division from September 27 to October 3 involved students and teachers from 15 primary and high schools in the Mt Popa area, said the society’s secretary, Ko Thet Zaw Naing.

 

THE Ministry of Information has released figures showing it received donations with a total value of about K23 million since August to support the establishment of self-reliance libraries throughout the country.

 
 
 

MYANMAR is making greater progress in providing clean water supplies and improving sanitation and hygiene, the country representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund, Ms Caroll Long, told a workshop in Yangon on October 7.

 

Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thin, a new member of the Iron Cross band, also performed and her unique performance style and dress are starting to win fans.She has a strong voice and her first song Lone Wa Ma Thet Saing Daw Bar (Nothing to do with you at all) was a wise choice.
