Hay Mar returns to the stage

By Khin Nyein Aye Than
Hay Mar Ne Win serenades the crowd at her first concert in two years.

SINGER Hay Mar Ne Win’s comeback concert, held at Sedona hotel last week, was highly successful, with many of her old fans eager to see her on stage for the first time in two years.

It was a private concert and tickets were issued by Hay Mar to close friends and colleagues, making the atmosphere relaxed and friendly despite a crowd of about 1000.

At the entrance to Sedona’s grand ballroom, photos of Hay Mar as a young singer were on display on a large board. Many fans took the opportunity to write messages to the singer on the board, expressing their happiness at her return to the limelight.

Inside the hall, the stage was decorated in simple black and white and the show started with a video message from the singer to the audience shown by a large projector.

Hay Mar stepped on stage wearing a beautiful sky-blue skirt and black shirt and she talked to the audience about her career.

“My father never wanted me to be a singer, but I think that if he were still alive, he would be very pleased,” she told the audience.

Singer and friend of Hay Mar, Chit Kaung who acted as master of ceremonies, also reminisced with the audience about the golden days of Hay Mar’s career.

The pair sang a duet together and then a mixture of young and older singers joined Hay Mar on stage.

She sang a duet with Sone Thin Par, who’s voice was no match for Hay Mar’s.

They sang Min Gyaung (because of you) and Hay Mar and Kabyar Bwe Hmu sang Nhoke Set Tha Chin (A song to say good bye) together.

The real applause started when Hay Mar and Si Thu Lwin teamed up together.

They sang Ah Chain Hman Lwan Ne Mae (I will miss you from time to time) and their voices harmonised beautifully.

After a brief costume change into a green and purple dress, Hay Mar returned to the stage to sing several songs including a duet of Ah Chit Sone (My dearest) with R Zarni, which Hay Mar originally sang alongside Htoo Ein Thyn, who died this year.

Singer Kaw Ni also participated in the performance with the help of two male dancers.

The liveliest part of the show was the joint performance between Hay Mar and her older brother Yar Zar Ne Win.

Yar Zar sang some rap lyrics while Hay Mar sang the song Kyaike Thwa Byi (I like you).

The fast-paced song had Yar Zar jumping around and dancing excitedly. He picked his sister up and cuddled her while Hay Mar gave the audience a nervous smile.

The audience went wild for the singing siblings and the bond between the two was obvious.

Yar Zar sang a song while Hay Mar went through her fifth costume change of the concert. The lyrics were not clear but everybody loves Yar Zar and the audience applauded wildly.

Yar Zar invited his cousin Eindra Kyaw Zin onto the stage and she sang Pa Hta Ma Oo Sone Ah Thae Kwae Zat Lan (the first heart-broken story) with Hay Mar.

Eindra Kyaw Zin surprised the audience with her beautiful singing voice.

The final performance came from Zaw Win Htut, who sang two duets with Hay Mar.

The concert finished with all 16 contributing singers and Hay Mar singing Aw Main Ma, Main Ma (ah woman, woman) together.
