The State Peace and Development Council had revised the salaries and wages again from 1-4-2000, similarly the existing pensions of the pensioners were also increased by two times.

Total Service of the Government Servant was formerly limited to the maximum of 42 years only. Nevertheless, Starting from 1-4-2000 the maximum 42 years of service limitation had been cancelled and all total services rendered by the Government servants are entitled to pension benefits.

Although the total amount of pension expenditure was only Kyats 665 millions in the fiscal year 1988-1989, the total amount of pension expenditure in the fiscal year 2000-2001 became Kyats 3555 millions on account of increase in pension and salaries since the assumption of the state duty by State Peace and Development Council.

In 1-4-2006 salaries and wages of the Government servants were increased again by the State Government and as a result of the increase in salaries and wages; the pension expenditure in the fiscal year 2006-2007 amounted to Kyats (22584) millions, much more than the previous expenditures. All the total pension expenditure was chargeable to the governments’ Budget, no payment of pension contribution to the Government fund. Under the guidance of the heads of State, pension departments were opened nation wide since 1-1-2006 and 1-4-2006 for the speedy disposal of pension cases.

The pension departments opened in the States and Divisions are as follow:-

(A) Directorate of Pension Department(Upper Myanmar)  - Mandalay

(1) Pension Department (Kachin State)                        - Myikyina

(2) Pension Department (Sagaing Division)                  - Monywa

(3) Pension Department (Mandalay Division)                - Mandalay

(4) Pension Department (Southern Shan State)           - Taunggyi

(5) Pension Department (Northern Shan State)           - Lashio

(6) Pension Department (Eastern Shan State)             - Kyaing Toan

(7) Pension Department (Kayar State)                         - Loikaw

(8) Pension Department (Magway Division)                  - Magway

 

 (B) Directorate of Pension Department(Lower Myanmar)  - Yangon

(1) Pension Department (Ayeyarwaddy Division)         - Pathein

(2) Pension Department (Bago Division)                       - Bago

(3) Pension Department (Western Bago Division)         - Pyi

(4) Pension Department (Kayin State)                          - Pha-an

(5) Pension Department (Mon State)                            - Moulmyine

(6) Pension Department (Rakhine State)                       - Sittwe

(7) Pension Department (Tanintharye Division)            - Myeik

In accordance with the principles laid down by the ministry of Finance and Revenue and State Peace and Development Council, the Pension Department had also made for speedy disposal of pension cases within (5) days in States and Divisions from the date of receipt in the department concerned.

In order to be able to do so, following requirements are being made by the pension department:-

(a) Discussions are being made in States, Divisions, Districts and Townships level relating to pension rules, regulations and procedures.

(b) Pension training classes are being regularly made by six times in a year for Departments, Enterprises, Councils, Organizations and municipals etc. at the Pension Department ( Head quarters ) in Yangon Division.

(c) In other training classes that had been separately opened by other ministry, pension subject lectures are being given by the pension department.
