The Government of the Union of Myanmar sets four political objectives, four economic objectives and for social objectives for all round development of the nation. The National Health Committee (NHC) sets, its focus on the National Health Policy and directs to achieve one of the social objectives to "uplift of health, fitness and educational standards of the entire nation". In the formulation of the plan, the prioritized health needs of the country, the HFA targets and relevant component of the 9th general programme of work the World Health Organization are the key determinants. The changes in international health strategy also takes a prominent role in the process of detail plan formulation. Accordingly the following are policy basic in planning. - To formulate the health programmes and its activities in line with the changing political, economic and environmental conditions. - To be in line with the rapid progress of science, technology development and application of effective information system. - The global health policy; "Health as an international action" is being accepted and assistance from those International agencies, Governments and Non-governmental Organizations will be accepted to which the government has indicated its commitment. - The policy "Equity, Solidarity and Health" as stated in renewing the HFA strategy is also to be in coherence with the NHP and the planned results will be monitored and evaluated. - The government has introduced a market-oriented economic policy which encourages private sector, co-operatives and joint-ventures in national development activities. As part of the policy, community participation in health activities is encouraged and inter- sectoral and NGOs co-operation have been promoted. |
