GENERAL AND MAINTENANCE INDUSTRIES ( MGMI ) Myanma
General and Maintenance Industries (MGMI) is a State owned enterprise
under the Ministry of Industry (1). It is mainly responsible for
electrical and mechanical installation and maintenance work, production
of general consumer products and civil construction. It is an organization
established on 1st June 1993 by merging the Myanma Metal
Industries (MMI) and the Myanma General Industries (MGI). They were
inaugurated in 1972 by the Notification No. 1 of the Ministry of
Industry dated 16th March 1972, as the Corporation having
perpetual succession and a common seal with power to acquire, hold
or own property both movable and immovable and shall, by the said
name, sue or be sued. Yet there were no changes in all their purpose,
functions, business and legal character. Managing Director is the head
of the organization holding all the responsibilities. The Board
of Director executes the policies laid down by Ministry and solves
the major problems. The
following are the main business departments under the organization. Planning Department Each department is headed by
a respective General Manager. Factories under Myanma General
and Maintenance Industries consist of Footwear Factories, Rubber
Goods Factories, Leather Factory, Leather Goods Factory, Paper Packaging
Material Factory, Plastic Ware Factory, Works and Maintenance Factory.
Enamel Wares Factories, Bicycle Factory. MGMI
is producing the following range of commodities: *Construction, Installation and Maintenance:- - Design and construction of building,
Mechanical and Electrical Installation and maintenance. Repairing
of Air-conditioner, Refrigerator, Motor and elevator. *Footwear Products:- - Canvas shoes, sport shoes, rubber sandals,
golf shoes, tennis shoes, safety boots, gum boots, tarpaulin. * Moulded rubber goods, rubber black soles,
bicycle tyres, tread compound tyres, rubber gloves *Leather and Leather products:- - Chrome leather, wet blue chrome leather,
sole leather, leather fibre, crust leather, leather shoes and slippers,
industrial gloves, leather products and spare parts. *Packaging and Plastic Products:- - Corrugated paper boxes, Plastic bottle crate, ball pen,
stamp pad ink and *Enamel Wares Products:- - Deep basin, Mug, Soup plate, Food Carrier, Wash basin, Chamber
pot *Bicycles Foreign
Investors will have the opportunities to make foreign investment
in the most of the factories under Myanma General and Maintenance
Industries. There are three Joint Venture
companies already formed with MGMI. (1)
The
First JV is Myanmar ACE Metal Industries Co.,Ltd, formed with ACE
Pressureweld Int'l (Pte)
Ltd. Singapore since 1990. This JV has been producing Aluzinc Roofing
Sheet, Enamel wear, Aluminium ware and Ground Coat Frits. (2)
The
Second JV is Myanmar SAI Steel Industry Co.,Ltd. formed with Myanmar
ACE Metal Industries Co.,Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation of Japan
in 1997. The factory was built in industrial zone and normal production
started in January 1999. It is now producing corrugated GI sheets
and other steel related products. The equity ratio is MGMI 24% , MAMI 25% and Sumitomo
