Textile Industries (MTI) is one of the six state-owned Myanmar Industries
under the Ministry of Industry (1), engaged in the production of
variety of textile products from the public sector. It was previously name as Textile
Industries Corporation. In 1989, the name of the Corporation was
changed to Myanma Textile Industries to be in line with new Market
Oriented System adopted in the country in late 1988. MTI
adopts the system of the Managing Director holding responsibility
under the leadership of the Board of Management. The Board of Management
acts as the supreme authority. Under MTI, there are altogether 28
factories at present. Those factories and mills consist of Spinning,
Weaving and Finishing Factories, Textile Mills, Garment Factories,
Knitting Factories, Blanket Factories, Towel Factories, Sewing Thread
Factory and Cotton-Wool and Bandages Factory.
The
main products of MTI are cotton yarn, polyester yarn, woven fabrics,
bleached, dyed and printed fabrics, bleached and dyed yarn, gent's
longyi, lace nylon and cotton mosquito netting, vest, sport shirts,
socks, ready made garments, blankets, towels, curtains, bedsheeting,
sewing thread, absorbent cotton, bandages and gauze, monk's robe,
etc.
